Beyond Expectations: A Remarkable Non-Surgical and Surgical Endodontic Journey

Endodontology is the branch of dentistry that is related to the treatment of deep dental cavities, inflamed pulp (nerves and blood vessels of the teeth) and different dental

traumatic injuries, like fractured teeth, intruded, extruded and avulsed teeth

In Liberty Dental Clinic, we have an endodontic department with three expert specialists in endodontics, with almost 20 years of experience each. This department is very well-equipped with cutting-edge devices and equipment to make the endodontic treatment easy, painless, and quick for the patients.

In this department we receive patients daily for diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment of different endodontic diseases. The dental meeting starts with taking the full history of the case, making clinical examination and interpretation of radiographs, then discussing the treatment options, and finally advising the patient with the best applicable option for him/her.

Treatments that we do in this department include:

  • Conventional root canal treatment
  • Acute and chronic abscess treatment
  • Retreatment of failed previous treatment
  • Bypass and retrieval of broken instruments inside the canals
  • Surgical treatment, apicoectomy in selected case
  • Build up of the destroyed teeth by applying fiber post and core
  • Internal bleaching of the discolored teeth resulting of old root canal treatment
  • Treatment of immature permanent teeth with MTA

Mariam is a 14 years old patient came to us with her family from Cyprus for treatment of her tooth that was advised to be extracted in other clinics there. Her tooth had abnormal and rare anatomical structure called dense in dent (tooth inside tooth). This malformation has led to pulp necrosis (death of the nerve) resulting in chronic apical abscess with acute symptoms.

This longstanding condition caused a huge bone resorption around the root of the tooth and large swelling along with severe pain.

Patient went to different dental clinics in Cyprus, Greece and USA. All dentists that she visited advised her to get this tooth extracted.

Her mother, who was one of the followers of Dr. Majd Naji -the founder of Liberty dental clinic- on Instagram contacted the clinic and sent the radiographs of Mariam’s tooth for evaluation and discussion for an online consultation before coming to UAE.

After the interpretation and analysis of the radiographs with the team of endodontic and maxillofacial departments, we booked an appointment for Mariam to see the case clinically and give her the best treatment option.

After few days, Mariam came to Dubai with her family. After making a CBCT (3D x-ray) to examine the tooth and the surrounding lesion, we found that Mariam’s tooth can be saved but not in the conventional technique of root canal treatment, however, it needs two stages treatment, non-surgical and surgical endodontic treatment.

After explaining the treatment technique and time required for this treatment, an appointment was booked.

At the day of treatment, we did the treatment in almost one and half hours.

At the same day, Mariam was referred to the orthodontic department for fixation of this tooth to the adjacent teeth for temporary stabilization until the surgical site heals.

This treatment scenario has multiple advantages, including:

– Saving the natural tooth with its original shape, color and function

– Avoiding extraction, as she is still young and implant or fixed bridge are not applicable in this age

– Single visit treatment and no more intervention except for stitches removal that needs few minutes without any type of pain

At the end of the treatment session, Mariam and her family were very happy as the tooth was saved with the same shape, color and function.
