Referral to the conservative and prosthodontic department in case the tooth needs a crown, inlay or onlay.
The purpose of a post is to retain a core that is needed because of extensive loss of tooth structure.
Until recent years, nearly all posts were made of metal, now the latest material used is fiber-reinforced, it’s major advantage is that it has a modulus of elasticity similar to dentin, which allows it to flex with the root when under stress, this is believed to distribute the stresses more evenly throughout the tooth than metal posts making the root less susceptible to fracture.
The procedure is very simple, first the endodontist will prepare the post space following the root canal treatment, making sure to retain 4mm of the filling material and then the post will be placed.
Infected or dead tooth pulp, can make a tooth appear much darker than surrounding healthy teeth, if this was the case then root canal treatment can clean out the infected material and pulp to save your tooth then internal bleaching of the single tooth will be performed, during the procedure a safe medicated paste is placed deep inside the tooth, this material reacts with stains and dissolves their particles, making the tooth appear whiter. After a root canal the tooth should be properly sealed to prevent further damage.
